FREE Christian Ebooks

Kidney stones develop when the urine is too concentrated, causing minerals and other chemicals in the urine to bind together. Over time, these crystals combine and grow into a stone. The first symptom of a kidney stone usually is extreme pain. It may begin suddenly as a stone moves in the urinary tract, causing irritation or blockage. Typically, a person feels a sharp, cramping pain in the back and side around the area of the kidney, or in the lower abdomen. The pain may spread to the groin. Sometimes nausea and vomiting occur. Kidney stones are commonly caused by the presence of calcium and other minerals in the urine. Diets that contain high level of sugar is also linked to the formation of stones. Recent study shows that drinking lemonade can actually reduce the chance of getting kidney stones. Drinking two and half litres of lemonade in a day has shown to produce positive results. To prevent the kidney stone one can take the supplements of magnesium, potassium , vitamin E and vitamin B6 along with lemonade.

How Much Lemonade?

The people who have a family history of kidney stones or are prone to kidney stones are advised to take a gallon of lemonade a day. It helps to pass a lot of urine. To reduce kidney stones, one has to increase the intake of fluids, like lemonade , so that around two liters of urine is passed in a day. The people living in dry and sunny regions need to consume more lemonade than the ones living in foggy and cold regions. The recommended recipe for lemonade is half cup of concentrated lemon juice with seven cups of water. A sugar substitute may be added to taste. However, it is advisable to avoid sugar, as extra calories are too much for some people's health.

Lemonade Therapy - How It Works

Always remember that , lemonade alone is not an answer to kidney stones. It is only a part of a stone preventing diet. The citrate is a naturally occurring urinary stone inhibitor . It binds to calcium in solution to form a highly soluble calcium- citrate complex. This reduces the ionic concentration of calcium and therefore the relative saturation of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate in urine. Dietary citrate supplementation through lemonade consumption has been successful. It may increase compliance and is especially useful in patients with moderate hypocitraturia. It may best be used in conjunction with pharmacologic citrate supplementation. The lemonade therapy takes a long period in curing the kidney stone.
