Kidney stones are the major health problem. Most of the men are affected by kidney stone. The accumulation is less in women. The ration can be taken as 1:3. The kidney stones are common in hot weather, but there are chances of getting at any time of the year. A kidney stone is a collection of mineral salts and proteins.

These form a solid crystalline mass. Initially they will be small in size but they will have a gradual growth. The small stone passes through the urine and the large stone that is unable to pass needs a surgery. Most of the kidney stones are composed of calcium containing crystals. Some of the stones are due to metabolic disturbances. The stones block the flow of urine. This usually causes a severe pain in the middle of the back or side of the groin.

A CT can detect approximately 95 to 98 percent of the kidney stones. The abdominal CT test is very good at identifying a kidney stone when it is causing significant abstruction of the kidney. An abdominal CT scan includes X-ray images of the abdomen from various angles. The stones are detected by the scanner and analyzed by the computer. These X-rays are painless. A CT scan provides a better picture of internal organs.
